This was our next assgnment using Illustrator, for this assignment we were to choose a letter and create twenty variations on the form utalizing; internal/external variation, extension, dislocation, distortion, superimposition, transfiguration, and 3-d manipulation. The letter I choose was 'X' these are my top five variations on the form.

Form Variations

This is the first of my form variations. I duplicated a flat 'X' then connected the two to create a three dimensional feel. This letter was among my favorites due to it's simplicity yet it has a certain complexity to it. The negative space in the spaces also create an intresting form.

For this second letter I decided to invert the colors to create a strong contrast. The lines became the main focus of this piece, and by overlapping them I was able to create a sort of value. I kept the letter 2-D this time but it still had a nice movement to it.

For this letter I used a similar technique to the previous image. I used the zig-zag tool and overlapped the two lines to create a point of emphasis in the center of the letter. The effect is similar to an optical illusion and gives the entire peice movement.

In this image again I created a contrast by overlapping black and white squares in order to create form. I added lines to connect the squares together and aid in the three dimensional effect. Lastly I created a few floating squares that were not connected in order to keep the shape open and create movement through the piece.

For this final piece I again created contrast by overlapping the diffrent values. I also played with scale in this image changing the size of the circles to create more organic shapes and mimic bubbles. I utalized the positive and negative space to my advantage and created  a balanced image.
