Color and transparency

As for this assignment we were given the task to create silhouettes of five random unrelated things. We then had to play with color and transparency and create; one duplicated image, one with all the objects together, and one of our choosing.

For  these first two images I used my Eiffel tower considering its such a recognizable shape. In order to create the illusion of space I layered the shapes over one another and played with shape, opacity, and color. With that I was able to create a foreground, middle ground, and a background.

For this next image I experimented with symmetry a technique I've used much before. I choose to use the bike as it was one of my favorite silhouettes and the most interesting shape. I feel this piece was nice but in the end did not fit in well with the assignment as it came out boring in terms of transparency.

In order to fix the problem in the last piece I started out with transparent shapes and filled the image more to create visual interest. I used muted colors here as opposed to all my other images to evoke the feel of the insect. I wanted to almost  create the shape of a web using the spider legs in the above piece.

As you can see here this was my piece for the first part of the assignment where all the objects were to be lined up together with similar sizes. I feel this bottom image was successful because I played with shadow by layering a darker shade under the spider, horse, and bike but left the tower empty to attract the eye.

As for this final piece it was very similar to my first duplicated bike image. when I changed the black and white image to color I decided in needed a focal point which I created with a bright flower-like shape in the center. this piece was more successful in black and white but the color gave off a completely new feel and the image was thoroughly transformed.
