Form Gradation

The following assignment was the build up from the form variations. We used our variations on form by manipulating them repeatedly yet gradually to create a slow apparent change. We used scaled, emphasis, pattern, and many other principles of design to create the change.

For this first image I played with proportion and movement. I created movement thoughout the piece by simply tilting the letters slightly in contrast to the stiff left side of the piece, the right side looks as though it is about to fall over. As for proportion I expiramented with the various sizes of the letter to change the entire piece and keep it from becoming too similar.

This was the next piece I created for this assignment. I feel this image came out most successful, the gradation is apparent and the transition is more smooth. I feel this image was also well thought out and was less random than the previous image. In this image I utalized the contrast of black and white, I inverted the form gradually to create a gradation. I also expiramented with scale by slowly changing the size of the forms as the pattern continued. For this image I feel the transition could have been smoother, but it's much clearer than my other pieces.

For this final image I attempted to create a image with my gradation. I used the letter 'X' as the ribbon of the corset. I feel this image was less sucessful due to the space, the image is so filled that there is no focal point and the 'X's blend in. I attempted to  use value in this image by thickening the form as it went on but focus is still attracted away from the form.
